This disassembly requires Phillips and torx (T15? and T6?) screwdrivers. The main screws to open the xbox are torx.

yes , the pics will be great , because sometimes the camera angle makes it difficult to understand the orientation of the product while moving from one step to the other.

We are currently having some trouble with bandwidth usage, as soon as we figure out how to resolve the issue we will post the xbox images individually.

The slideshow wouldnt be as bad if it were just that, a slide show, it get very annoying when the picture starts zooming out.

That the oporator is taking the xbox apart on a carpet is the best part. Although I doubt it will be put back together, static is not the friend of electronics.
The Xbox is back together and functioning properly. (We always put the devices back together again. Showing that wouldn’t be very interesting, however. Reverse the order of the pictures if you like.)

p.s. if light on your xbox turns red what would that meen? what would be wrong?
I was studying the intenesfior ram of my torch and i was wondering if it would connect with the motherboard from my toaster and then if i could fuse the block connector from my Dyson to the supercharger on my blender!

FYI the torx screws needed are T15 for the case, T10 for the motherboard etc and something in between to remove the harddrive from the tray.
T20 is needed to remove hard drive
I have a problem with my xbox….it doesn’t turn on anymore…how do I fix that (ie is the something I have to replace within the xbox etc.)

Mann, this really helped me out cause when i would turn on my xbox, it would always say the disc is dirty or scrached, mean while it was a brand new game. Thanx.
ok guys i have modded and up graded my xbox to a gig of ram this is simple jsut get the same brand and size and it will work maps will load 10 times as quick ect ect oh and ps you need a Torx 10 and a Torx 20 screwdriver not the idiot who said a 15 and a 6 idiot noobs

I recently opened my xbox because my xbox is’nt functioning anymore properly. The harddrive of my xbox has been formatted, and i noticed that all the software of the xbox is inside the harddrive. Can someone help me get the software from a cd or anything else??
Has anyone heard or dealt with games getting scratched in a circular motion to where they are no longer able to read… It seems as though my xbox is scrathcing the crap out of all my new games… it never used to do this.. wondering if i took the cd-rom apart and cleaned it that would solve the problem??????

Very nice, except for one thing: there are **SIX** TORX SCREWS HOLDING THE STUPID THING TOGETHER (a pox on Bill Gates for using torx instead of something more SANE…), not just the 5 as are implied by the video slideshow (yes the pictures above, finally, do indicate there are six screws — if you count the two holes cut in the foil stickers and the at-that-point-still-unexposed screws under the rubber “feet” — but a slightly better, for us dummies, picture of what to remove to open the box is found here: http://www.chipzone.com/installation/xbox/xbox_open/step1.jpg )

I used this tut to take it apart to clean the fan like i do once a month on my pc to keep it running good but a ran into issue I got it apart but mine only has the fan mounted on the back of the system it dont have one under the dvd drive like the one in the pics does…
Its probly not a big deal but now im gonna be worried that it will over heat im paranoid like that.

hey so my bro’s, Gf’s, Cat jumped off my intertament center and landed onto my hard drive and now the green light blink red and green, there some clicking come from somewhere on the xbox(i think its the box beside the hardrive) and another from when it happend i took it apart to see if i can fix it and the picture is still the same as when i turn it off( its been all disconected but placed back together).. whats do yall think the problem is? its takin me 3 packs of smokes and acouple bowls so im done im looking to the smarter people of the world so here i am now if someone can help me out kick ass thanks if not damn… new xbox

my xbox keeps freezing or not playing games at all, its really starting to piss me off. i know its the xbox cause i just got a brand new game and it stilll said that the disc is either dirty or damaged and i cant figure out if its the xbox laser or some other problem. If somebody out there can help it would be greatly appreciated.
my mini heat sink was slightly different to yours and would not come off. I ended up pulling out the ol’ sledgehammer, the mjolnir of TIA’s. i wasn’t putting it back together because it caught on fire (literally) once and on closer inspection this was because one of the capacitors had dissolved and ceased to exist except for a rust trail leading from the capacitor to the fan. very informative though especially the pics of the screws under the stickers.

my xbox quit playing cds, but worked fine other than that , i opened er upand loe and behold, some lint and a piece of tape were stuck under the big white gear that makes the eye move, while it was opened up, i gave it a cleaning, it works better than when i got it!

when i turn on my xbox thers a clicking sound on the rigtht side of it and where the green light that goes around the button u open to put ur games in starts to flash red and a thing pop up on the screen ” xobox needs servise ” wat do i have to do ?

took my Xbox apart months back,it took HOURS and was really cruddy inside.It worked all great for a week or so then went back to freeze mode or telling me that brand new games were dirty/scratched…what can I do and how can I mod this thing ??

My discs won’t eject from the xbox. I have taken it apart and it works fine and ejects the discs when apart, but when I put the disc cover back on and reassemble the xbox the same problem happens. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Many Thanks.

It’s fun to take it apart but more fun to hack it and add a 500gb hard drive, put XBMC and Vision Skin on it and put in a wireless network card! I store all my music, movies, scripts, training videos, UFC fights, ect on mine!
