What model of PS2 is this? Mine is completely different on the inside. I have almost everything flipped upside down in comparison to that one. The small orange board is upside down, the main circuit board is upside down (there fore, I have access to the optical drive much sooner). But this is great. I was able to fix my system! Only probelm now is, it shuts itself off.

whats that armband thing with the wire connected to it,

  4.
    July 26, 2006 | 10:54 am

The armband is an Anti-Static (ESD) wrist strap. We use it to protect the electronics we take apart from accidental damage due to static electricity.

There are 12 versions of the PS2. V11 and 12 are the “slim version”

all other models are revisions from the original V1 PS2. A search on google will show much more information on identifying your revision and disassembling your PS2.

xoxidine, your PS2 is likely another revision from the one shown here.

My PS2 Slim hit the ground pretty hard. When I opened it up, this tiny white square that “clicks” came flying out. I am assuming it is for the power button. It won’t start. Everything else appears to be fine. Can anyone tell me where this goes?

While taking apart my PS2 I accedntally pulled the ribbon out from the PS2 connecting the reset and eject button to the PS2. It looks ok and doesnt seem to be ribbed anywhere and it is still connected to the reset and eject buttons. Am I able to retatch it, or did I screw myself over and need a whole new ps2 now?

SHane, you did not screw yourself over, you just need to find out what version yourr ps2 is http://www.mod-chip.com/en/ps2version.htm
Then search google for disasembling a (your version) PS2, find a good guide and go from there.

Hi. I had already taken apart my PS2 before I watched your video. I’m stuck because I dont have the rigt screw driver. Anyway, I’m taking it apart to try and locate a “vertical hold” chip or unit. Something along those lines. When I put a PS1 game in, it plays just fine, but the screen continually and slowly scrolls top to bottom Just like the vertical hold on an old school TV. This problem doesnt occur with DVD, CD, or PS2 games, only PS1’s. Would this be a problem with a processor or is there an actual mechanical way to adjust it?
You guys seem to know what youre doing and I would appreciate any advice you could give.

I need to add a correction to that question. It turns out that its only having problems with Squaresoft PS1 games: Legend Of Mana, Final Fantasy, etc. Other PS1 games worked just fine. The Squaresoft games work just fine on my buddies PS2. How do I fix this?

I have a slimline PS2 and when i power it on, the cd motor does not turn, although the laser moves. Is there something I can do to repair this? Is there a way to order an optical drive to replace the one that’s in there?

i have the first ps2 model to come out, so i know its gonna be glitchy and i may not be able to do anything about it. Still couldnt hurt to try though! Currently, my os2 is trying to read Xenogears, and has been for about an hour. It will play, but when it needs to load it continually does so. Disc is not scratched. Also have problems getting it to even read most discs- i was shocked when it read xenogears. Any advice?

man it would have been nice to see this a few years ago. taking shit apart is where its at.got an older ps2 for 10 bucks at the thrift store. thought that a house with variuos tv’s needed various consoles….. the machine booted up but did not want to read any disks. so i took it apart. after cleaning the shit out of it piece by piece, with compressed air, i put it back together. those damn thin sony proprietary cables where scary but they fit back in with a little patience and a steady hand. runs beautifully, reads game discs, dvd’s etc. sometimes the bastard runs gran turismo all night so i can stack chips.
