Gameboy Pocket

Posted on Monday 10 April 2006

Taking apart Nintendo’s Game Boy pocket is easy, if you have the right tools.

Note the four screws on the back of the device. There are two hidden underneath the battery cover. These screws use a somewhat rare bit. Known as a “triwing” bit, it is basically halfway between a phillips and a slotted. If you do not have the correct bit, you can use a medium sized slotted, but this can damage the screws if you are not careful.

Anyway, remove them.

The back cover should come off easily now.

You can take out the metal sheet now if you need to, but there is noting behind it.

Remove the visible screws on the back now, in order to remove the PCB.

Pop the ribbon lock out of place with a flat bit, and disconnect the ribbon.

Now take off the PCB.

The removal of the buttons and power switch is simple… Remove them with your fingers, nothing is holding them in place.

Using a wedge, pop out the screen.

Done!
