Erin generously gave us permission to post images from her Flickr set depicting the screen repair of a Canon SD300 camera. Many thanks, Erin!

She says:
“Here are some pitcures showing how to replace your LCD on a Canon SD300. I hear they break a lot. Mine did. I used the instuctions on this website to fix my camera. My instrcutions are not very good, so go there for details, but if you want to see pictures for reference, here they are.”

Take off the front shell of the camera by unscrewing 6 screws: 2 on left, 2 on right, 2 on bottom.

Take out screw (1), lift up plastic tab (2) to help remove back shell of camera.

Gently pry off the LCD screen to separate it from the backlight and camera body.

This is what the camera looks like after you separate the LCD from the body.

The LCD ribbon is attached to the front side of the camera. Lift up the little black hinge/clasp (1) holding the end of the LCD ribbon to remove the ribbon.

Attach a strip of paper to the end of the ribbon so you can use the paper as a way to pull the new ribbon in.

This is the new screen. When the broken screen was pulled out, the paper was put in the ribbon’s place. The end of the new LCD ribbon was taped to the paper and the paper pulled the new ribbon back through.

After you plug the new ribbon end in, the new screen has to be snapped into place. Then basically screw it all back together.

Here we go!

There are screws all over this camera, so make sure you take the time and remove them all before you try to take the covers off!

This is a section of cover from the side of the camera, take it off!

Here it is, the inside of a camera, now, since this is a sensitive device, be careful!

When you remove the magical glowing screws shown above, and disconnect the clip (which is also glowing magically and has its very own arrow!)

Now you can fold the screen down, like so.

More screws. Lose em. Also watch out for the clip, as shown by the arrow.

Look! Another arrow! Watch the circled clip. You dont want to bend or break anything!

Now be careful and disconnect all of the ribbon cables.

On the front, you will notice more ribbon cables, disconnect ‘em. If you dont know how, look below. If you do, pat yourself on the back and buy yourself a soda, you’ve earned it.

By now you should have totally disconnected the lens from the rest of the body.

On the back, there are more screws holding ribbons in place, so go wild, and unscrew them.

You can remove the base plate, but be careful, and watch for any screws!

More screws to remove, and another clip.

Remove the screw noted above.
