Digital Answering Machine - Contest Winner

Posted on Saturday 24 June 2006

Thanks to Peter, we have a second place winner in the contest for user-submitted disassembly guides. Here is Peter’s disassembly guide for an ATT Model 1337 digital answering machine:
Found this laying around and figured it’d be a nice addition to the site.

Front

Back (overheated battery caused a bit of scorching, not sure if its evident in the pic)

Side

Top

Bottom

This plate holds the bottom of the answering machine together. It was glued down, and had to be forced a little.

Remove these four screws, and gently lift the top of the board to gain access to the screw underneath it

Aformentioned screw

There are two more screws underneath the black plastic

Back Plate

Guts and Buttons

Front Plate

Tada!

I’ve had this answering machine kicking around for a few years. I never managed to get it open, not realizing that part of it was glued down! I even resorted to trying (and failing) to saw it open. Now that I have this guide I’ll have to give it another go.

Ha, that’s great!. I have this exact same answering machine. Suckers old and the volume only works turned all the way up, which is VERY loud. I think I’ll take it apart now.

I have one of these that has been going strong for about 16 years. Just amazing as I think this was one of the first tapeless machines on the market. I wish all electronics were this reliable. Thanks

I just retired my AT&T 1337 answering machine today, after over 14 years of use. Nice to see some information about it on the web. It was still working up until today, although recently the built-in microphone for recording the greeting stopped working properly. The last outgoing message I recorded was very distorted and low in volume. Thanks for putting this page on the web.
